The February Home Furnishings Market in Las Vegas had an encouraging and upbeat mood this year. While in the Pacific Coast Lighting showroom to view the latest market introductions we met Kathy Ireland. Kathy is branded with many global partners across the spectrum. Her licensed collections include floor covering, bedding, clothing, florals, accessories and ceramics.The Kathy Ireland Home design team was founded in 1993 and currently has 1.4 billion dollars a year in sales for her products. Her mission statement is, “Finding solutions for families, especially busy moms.”

Kathy shared how her global design teams work together to create products across the brands that will coordinate with each other rather than match. She works hands on with her design team for development of all products in her licensed collections. According to Kathy, the color trends are currently plum, purple, and turquoise.

It’s exciting to see upholstery from the inside out! During a trip to Norwalk Custom Furniture in Norwalk, OH, Brenda and Brenna had the opportunity to see the inner workings of the Norwalk Furniture Company. We met the wonderful people we speak with daily as we customize furniture for our clients. It was refreshing to see the dedication and pride of each Norwalk employee we met.

Our factory tour began with the area where furniture frames are cut and assembled on site with wood furnished from local suppliers.  Next, we saw the springs (made from recycled cars)  inserted into the frames and passed along to the upholstery division. The fabrics are cut and bundled for specialized seamstresses.

Qualux foam for the cushions arrives in LARGE “buns”! We tried our best to move a “bun” but were unsuccessful. Later, we found out they actually have to run, jump and tackle each “bun” to take to cutting division. If we had only known this!

There is an entire room of furniture upholstered in white fabric for photography. This step enables the fabric draping feature on the Norwalk website. Each fabric is also photographed which allows (with the use of your computer) to see your sofa, chair etc. as you ordered it. Next we saw the design/development area for the Candice Olson Collection. These pieces are also upholstered in white to allow Candice revise each style to perfection with a magic marker! Each style is rebuilt until it meets her perfect specifications.

We then moved to the the fabric/design room where we were allowed a sneak peak at  April Market introductions. We are excited to announce new fabrics and frame styles will be available at Picture Perfect Interiors mid-March. New color collections included combinations of plum, gray, green along with teal, paprika and warm neutrals. The Candice Olson collection featured peacock, caramel, brown, charcoal and black.
