Spring Fling

Dining By Design was founded in Kansas City over fifteen years ago and has become the signature event for DIFFA chapters nationwide.  Dining By design has helped raise over $1 million for HIV and AIDS education and prevention in the Kansas City area.

Our table featured a set of beautiful china that was loaned to us from the estate of a long-time friend, Jim Burrus.  This china held special sentimental meaning to him as it was a gift from a friend who had passed away from AIDS.

Shirley, our floral designer did fantastic work on the birdcage centerpiece using orange orchids as the main focal point.  Placing the piece on a riser covered in moss, small bird nests along with eggs and other natural embellishments made up the center of the table.

We used burlap placemats with scalloped cut hydrangea (orange and aqua) and olive green paper chargers.  The complementing colors of orange and aqua make for a fabulous color combination.  Complementing colors are those colors that are opposite each other on a color wheel and create maximum contrast and stability.  You can always be sure to catch attention when using a complementing color scheme.

Adding a box of chocolates wrapped in brown kraft paper, tied with an olive green ribbon, and a personalized tag makes each guest feel like they were personally invited to sit at this table.

Our chair covers received many compliments.  Using a simple piece of burlap over the chair back, pleating it up and securing with a larger covered button we were able to bring our theme right off the table and onto the chairs as well.
